Be careful of online shopping scams this month. With lots of Black Friday deals in your inbox, some links and websites might look like your favourite shops but could be fake.
These scams might try to collect your payment details or personal information, so it’s a good idea to double-check before you shop.
What to look out for?
- The offer looks too good to be true.
- When you type in your details or go to the checkout, there’s no padlock symbol in the website address bar.
- They want you to pay immediately or only by bank transfer.
- You can’t find any contact details or delivery information on the website.
Protecting yourself from scams
Here are a few tips to help keep you safe:
- Always check websites are secure by looking for the padlock symbol in the website address bar.
- Only buy from shops and brands you know and trust.
- If you’re not sure about an offer, check it’s real by going to the official website.
- Keep your device's software up to date and use anti-virus software from a trusted company.
- Always ‘sign out’ of online banking or shopping accounts when you’re done.
